Cancer Picked the Wrong Girl: Diana Bullard's Journey

Sister Survivor Story - Diana Bullard.

My journey began in 2014.

After eight needle biopsies and two surgical biopsies, breast cancer found its way into my life. The biopsies had shown that I was at high risk, but hearing the words "you have breast cancer" was still something I never expected.

In April 2025, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

I couldn't believe it.

Like so many others, I experienced a wide range of emotions. But from the very beginning, I was determined to fight. I made a promise to myself that I would do everything necessary to become cancer free.

One of the greatest blessings throughout this journey has been my care team. From my breast surgeon, plastic surgeon, oncologist, radiologist, nurse navigator, therapist, and social worker, I have been surrounded by incredible people who genuinely cared about me and my outcome.

Together, we decided that a double mastectomy would be the best course of treatment.

On June 11, 2025, I underwent surgery.

Believe me when I say that my recovery has been one for the books. Since surgery, I have experienced no pain—something I am incredibly grateful for every single day.

Today, I am happy to report that all of the cancer has been removed from my body.

I will not need chemotherapy, but I will undergo five weeks of radiation treatment. I have also chosen reconstructive surgery and have begun having my expanders filled. Radiation will begin once that process is complete.

As I continue recovering at home, I am thankful to be feeling so well.

Throughout this entire journey, my family and friends have been an incredible source of strength and support. I could not have done this alone. They have been absolutely amazing.

My spirits remain high, and this experience has shown me a strength I didn't realize I had.

People often tell me how strong I am, but I always remind them that even strong people need people.

One of the questions I am asked most often is how I have maintained such a positive attitude throughout everything.

My answer is always the same:

"Cancer picked the wrong girl."

God keeps me strong.

My faith keeps me hopeful.

Prayer keeps me going.

My family keeps me fighting.

I know that every cancer journey is different. Along the way, I have learned so much from others who have shared their stories with me. Connecting with people who understand this journey brings me comfort, encouragement, and the motivation to keep moving forward.

I am determined.

I will be cancer free.

I will ring the bell.
